Ronney "Venezuela" Vargas was a promising Professional Boxer and a three time Golden Glove Champion. He was also a great role model for his younger brother Ronniel Jose Vargas,a Close Friend of mine , who is now on the way too becoming a Golden Glove Champion and following the foot steps of his older brother. Ronney Won Golden Gloves in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and Had a 8-0 record with Six knockouts since turning pro.
Ronney lived with his father and two brothers in the South Bronx and once said during an interveiw "I love my block, I love the people around here. Everyone knows eachother , so its so hard for me to move out and start my life somewhere else". On August 16, Ronney was in a Clinton Avenue bodega in East Tremont with five of his friends at aproximately 3:30am. After an argument accured over the guys' girlfriends, Ronney and his friends left in his Honda Accord.
The dispute enraged the men that when Vargas and his buddies drove off in a Honda Accord, they followed close behind in a white car.Several blocks away, on Hughes Ave., the suspects pulled up and blocked Vargas' car. Then a man came to Vargas' driver-side window and pistol-whipped him before shooting him in the chest.Ronney tried to drive off backwards, sideswiping several cars before he got out of the vechile, before he collapsed in the street."His friend got on his knees and held him in his arms, like a mother rocks a baby," said a woman who watched the shooting from her apartment window. "He said, Don't die on me."Vargas was then pronounced dead at St. Barnabas.A dramatic surveillance video obtained by The News shows the scene of the shooting, including Vargas' car careening backward and his friends frantically calling for help afterward.
"He had a future", said his father , "they didnt just kill a boxer they killed a champ." His father was right , Ronney definately left his mark in Boxing and will always be loved and rememnered by his loved ones. R.I.P RONNEY "VENEZUELA" VARGAS <3
